Actor Martin Sheen has compared his son Charlie's battle with addiction to cancer.
The West Wing star has been in the UK to promote his new film The Way, which is set for release on April 15.
His son Charlie, star of Two and a Half Men, is currently undergoing rehab treatment at his home in LA and his actor father spoke out about his son's problems.
Speaking to Sky News, Martin, 70, said: 'He's an extraordinary man, He's doing well.
'We pray for him. If he had cancer how would you treat him? This disease of addiction is a form of cancer.
'You have to have an equal measure of concern and love.'
He remains philosophical about his son's ongoing struggles.
'You realise we're not all on the same journey all the time,' he said.
'We have to love that much more. We have to be that much more present.'
When asked earlier how he was supporting his son, Sheen replied: 'With prayer. We lift him up and we ask everyone who cares about him to lift him up, and lift up all those who are in the grip of drug and alcohol abuse, because they are looking for transcendence.'
Martin, who acted alongside Charlie in the 1987 film Wall Street, said he would be happy to work with him in the future.
'That would be another miracle and we'd look forward to it, very much so,' he said.
This week Sheen spotted kissing a mystery woman in Calabasas, California.
He declined to reveal his new girlfriend's identity, but has previously described himself as '100%' in love.
Meanwhile, yet another porn star emerged today claiming she had a four-month relationship with the star last year.
Adult actress Lindsay Wager, who goes by the stage name Elizabeth Ann, says she witness him taking drugs and claims he provided her with the morning after pill after the pair had unprotected sex.
'Charlie knew that I was not on any kind of birth control, so and I didn't want to have children either so he called
'He [Charlie] used, I'm not sure if it's a crack pipe or just some kind of bong for freebasing cocaine, I guess,' she told Radar Online.
'I never saw him snort anything, but almost every time I saw him he was smoking cocaine until he would pass out.'
Wagner also described him as 'paranoid' and 'scared to leave the house'.
